The Helmet is a fancy pigeon breed developed over many years of selective breeding. The Helmet, along with other varieties of domestic pigeons, is all descended from the rock pigeon (Columba Livia). The breed includes medium-faced, short-faced, flat-faced, and crested varieties. Helmeted pigeons have been recorded since the early 15th century and appear to have origins in Germany. Modern varieties were perfected in the late 20th century.
